ABOUT THE TEAM

The Regional US&R Task Force is comprised of 30 people specially trained and equipped for large or complex US&R operations. The multi-disciplinary organization provides eight functional elements that include Supervision, Search, Rescue, Medical, Planning, Safety, Haz-Mat and Tool/Equipment Support. The Regional US&R Task Force is totally self-sufficient for the first 48 hours and organized for 12 hour operational periods for up to three weeks. RTF-4 is to be requested through the standard California Master Mutual Aid System.

RTF-4 is supervised by a Task Force Leader. An Assistant Safety Officer is attached to the Task Force and will work directly with the Task Force Leader.

The US&R Task Force Search element includes Canine and Technical Search capabilities. The Task Force Rescue element includes Three Type 1 US&R Companies, 1 Type 1 Fire Engine, 6 4x4 UTV's, Multiple Technical Search Specialists and a Heavy Equipment and Rigging Specialist. A Hazardous Materials specialist is included on the team as well. This element can conduct rescue operations in all types of structures and terrains. The Task Force Medical element is responsible for the care and treatment of injured task force members or victims if such care must occur in the hazard area.
